Work activity includes teaming with other professionals in the planning, organization, control, and maintenance of the company IT infrastructure of servers and network equipment, as well as customer infrastructure that is designed to exist in a Public Cloud Infrastructure, Datacenter, or a hybrid deployment. As an IT professional it is expected that the Systems Engineer is dedicated to ensuring that all products and services of the company and its clients are designed such that they are productive, secure, and accessible. In addition, this role requires the candidate to demonstrate leadership and proficient mentoring ability amongst peers and supporting staff. This position reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
Responsibilities
Design, Engineer, and participate in the implementation of multi-tiered applications across multiple geographically located datacenters.
Provide guidance to customers as workloads are implemented in or migrated to new cloud architecture.
Design, test, and deploy servers and supporting infrastructure or software elements under direction of outlined projects, adjusting to requirements and guidelines as discovered.
Participate in planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure and supporting software.
Deploy and maintain infrastructure elements in a cloud based and co-located managed hosting environment.
Design, test, and implement effective data backup and replication procedures that maintain data integrity and availability.
Quickly grasp client technical requirements and articulate a matching solution architecture based on Company product portfolio, in writing, online or in person.
Act as point of escalation for high tiered system tickets.
Act as a technical advisor to coworkers and clients.
Provide minor project management capabilities for a limited set of projects as necessary.
Work closely with Pre-Sales efforts to maintain company image of integrity and consistent delivery.
Compose technical documentation for knowledge transfer of processes and procedures for the purposes of training coworkers and customers.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in several industry leading and emerging technologies and processes.
Identify process improvements and establish programs to carry out improvement processes and procedures.
Guide and support systems engineers, administrators, and other team members fostering both personal and professional growth throughout the company.
Technical Expertise
Strong operating knowledge of both Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems such as Windows 2008 + R2, 2012 + R2, 2016, 2019, Debian and Red Hat-based Linux distributions, as well as Unix/BSD.
Operating knowledge of virtualization technologies such as Software Defined Networking, Storage Area Networks, VMWare ESXi, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
Operational knowledge of public cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and other competing cloud offerings.
Operating knowledge of cloud-based business applications such as Google Workplace, and Microsoft Office365.
Understanding of Fault Tolerance, High Availability, Failover, Clustering, Load Balancing, and Redundancy and how each should be used in a Managed Services role.
Significant navigational understanding of cloud control interfaces, and the ability to successfully transfer knowledge to customers in a way that enables success.
Understanding of Office 365 administration and tools such as Microsoft licensing, Exchange Online, ADFS, AD Sync, SharePoint, OneDrive, AzureAD.
Experience with hybrid Office 365 environments.
Excellent writing skills to be able to document technical information clearly.
Software Experience with Nginx, Apache, Microsoft IIS, FTP, Email, VoIP, directory services, CRM, content management systems, infrastructure monitoring and metrics, version control, and more.
Shell, Command Line Interface, and other scripting ability to perform routine tasks and information gathering.
Familiarity with configuration management and automation tools.
Fundamental understanding of networking concepts including routing, switching, bridging, tunneling, and firewalls.
