Clinical Informatics Specialist

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care, while providing day-to-day administration of clinical information systems. 
  • Provides quality first line support and guidance to employees who use clinical applications. 
  • Initially troubleshoots all nursing & Provider complaints and works towards a timely resolution to all problems using all available resources. 
  • Coordinates on-going support and direction in the proper use of the clinical application for new employees. 
  • Provides necessary on-going training, support, and direction for hospital employees & Providers so they can productively use the clinical information system. 
  • Provides training to hospital super users to assist in the orientation of new employees and in the training of employees during enhancements/upgrades within the clinical applications. 
  • Responsible for drafting and updating written recommendations for changes in policies and procedures for applicable clinical applications. 
  • Organizes, plans, and recommends resources to most efficiently implement solutions and takes a pro-active role in relation to project progression. 
  • Communicates pertinent information to all employees who use the clinical applications in order for them to have the knowledge, direction, and tools to maximize their effectiveness in working towards a common end- goal. 
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships and interacts positively and productively with teams across organizational lines. 
  • Demonstrates well developed problem solving, analytical, customer service, and oral and written communication skills. 
  • Be aware of audience and adjust accordingly.

  • Maintains compliance with organization's policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. 
  • Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information. 
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization. 
  • Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies. 

 

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's of Nursing from an accredited educational institution
  • Knowledge of all phases of the project development cycle
  • Knowledge of systems analysis and design techniques
  • Knowledge of documentation needs and techniques
  • Knowledge of clinical application systems
  • Knowledge of structured systems methodologies
  • Ability to design, conduct, and evaluate systems testing
  • Ability to research and evaluate the suitability of automation software and hardware products
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to lead, coordinate the activities of, and provide technical support to project teams
  • Ability to plan, oversee, and evaluate the work of technical subordinates
 

Required Experience

 

Minimum Education 

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master’s Degree preferred. 

    Minimum Work Experience 

    • Minimum of five years frontline nurse (multiple and diverse clinical experience), and Leadership experience preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience working with Physician Providers in a Hospital setting. 

    • Required Licenses 

    • Registered Nurse 

    • Currently Licensed by the State of Kentucky as a registered nurse.
